Lou Wine Shop is a neighborhood wine merchant serving Los Feliz and the surrounding communities. We specialize in natural and unusual wines, with an emphasis on wines from France’s Loire Valley, Beaujolais, the Jura, the northwest and south of Spain, the northeast and south of Italy, California and Oregon, Austria, and anywhere else winegrowers farm the land with respect and work wonders with the grape varieties that are historic and traditional to their regions. We offer thematic tastings—often with a visiting winemaker or wine importer—three days a week, typically on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays. Who we are

Lou Amdur

I opened Lou Wine Bar in Hollywood in 2006 after working in software for many years and an earlier life as an academic. I sold my wine bar in 2012 and opened Lou Wine Shop in 2014. My areas of wine obsession, to name a few: Madeira, the Jura, Sicily, the Loire, Beaujolais, Friuli, and the Canaries.

JD Plotnick

After attending culinary school at Kendall College of Culinary Arts, JD cooked at restaurants in his hometown of Chicago as well as in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  JD began buying and pairing wines while cooking at Schwa Restaurant in Chicago, and later in Los Angeles, where he worked as the wine buyer for the Venice Whole Foods. JD is Senior Wine Analyst at Lou Wine Shop and is obsessed by Spanish wines (Galicia, Jerez, et al.), riesling, Champagne, and the wines of the Loire Valley.
